My CSV import is rejected: common errors
Is your file rejected before the preview, or are some rows marked “With errors”? Here are the most frequent causes and how to fix them.
Step 1 : If the whole file is rejected
A red message appears under the drop area. It may say that the file is empty; that the name column cannot be found in the first row (KALEA then lists the columns it read: check that the first row really contains the headings); that the file contains only the header; that it contains too many rows (split it into several files); or that it cannot be read (save it again as CSV).
Step 2 : If some rows have errors
In the preview, each row with an error carries its message. The most frequent ones: the name is required; unknown type (write machine or vehicle); unknown status (in service, broken down or out of service); unknown meter unit (hours or km); invalid year, meter or price; invalid date (write YYYY-MM-DD or DD/MM/YYYY); duplicate (same internal code, serial number or registration as a row above). The row number is the one in your spreadsheet, the header being row 1 (provided the file has no empty rows, which are ignored).
Step 3 : Download the errors
At the end of the import, click “Download the errors (CSV)”. The file contains only the rows to fix, with a last column giving the reason.
Step 4 : Fix and import again
Fix the rows in that file, then run the import again with “Import”. Machines already created are recognised by their internal code, serial number or registration: they are not created a second time. A machine with none of these three references cannot be recognised and would be created twice if you import it again.
Good to know
- Machines “already in your fleet” are skipped by default. To change that, choose “Update them” in the preview: only the columns you provide are filled in (except the name, which is always replaced by the one in the file; type and status are not changed), and a meter that already has a value is never changed.
- If KALEA announces that the network or server is unavailable, run the import again: rows already created are recognised thanks to their internal code, serial number or registration.
- Depending on your plan, rows marked “Over the limit” are not imported because the machine limit is reached. See the plans page.
- Only the manager (Administrator or Management) can import: for the other access levels, the “Import” button is not offered.
